All hail the KING!!

March 12th, 2012

It’s always good to have someone new on the team. New blood, new attitude…. new sacrificial lamb. Aaahh ha ha ha!! (evil laughter)

Watching the boys down in the warehouse reminds me a little of the good old days at primary school when the only prerequisite for acceptance among your peers was whether or not the contents of your lunch box was worthy of ‘swap-sies’.  LOL

Boys have always been, and will remain forever, a mystery to me. I really don’t know exactly what they do down there all day in ‘the man cave’/warehouse but they swear to me that it’s constructive and worthy of the Award wage.   ;-)

Anyhoo…..  a big welcome to Andy, whose surname is King, (all hail the King!) and it’s nice to have him on board full time. He came to play with us last year during the all consuming busy season and we thought that he was such a nice guy that we couldn’t bear to let him go.

This is perhaps my favourite photo of Andy (and his least favourite). Taken at a Taipans NBL game during season 2011/12 where Andy can be found twiddling knobs and keeping the audio under control. (I’m sure he’ll threaten me with violence once he sees this post so I’d best pop my jogging shoes on now.)

Say cheese Andy.....

Shiny Disco Balls!

July 6th, 2011

We had a ball (a shiny disco ball) up at the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas from the 19th to the 24th of June working on a conference for Niagara Therapy. Port Douglas is such a beautiful location and the group enjoyed both on-site and off-site activities. The world renown “Flames of the Forest” is always a favourite location for conference groups visiting the Far North and is only a 15min bus ride away from the Sheraton.

The group got down and boogied disco-style on their final with a gala dinner and plenty of great music and dancing until the wee hours.

Cory was once again at the helm of this one & did a fantastic job as Project Manager. Love it when a plan comes together.  ;-)

Check out the giant shiny disco ball!!!

A healthy respect for a job well done – “Health Workforce”..

July 6th, 2011

It’s always terrific to get positive (practically glowing) feedback from a client at the end of a conference or event. So when we received this email from Health Workforce regarding their conference held at the Novotel Resort Palm Cove at the end of June I felt that it was definately worth posting.

Cory put in some big hours during June and really raised the bar to ensure that his client had the best possible experience during their stay in Far North Queensland.

We’re all about SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE….and every client, big or small, deserves the absolute best. We go above and beyond the call to try and exceed our client’s expectations.

Well done Cory! Go Team!!!

I just wanted to write to you to thank Bright Black for their help at the AAMM 2011 Conference held on the weekend at the Novotel Rockford Palm Cove Resort.  I also wanted to let you know that Cory was amazingly helpful and often went above and beyond his duty to ensure things ran smoothly and I was as stress free as I could be.
I found Cory to be my lifeline for the weekend as the last thing I had to stress about was the AV.
I look forward to working with you all again in the future.
Regards,

Definately up to the “Challenge”!

July 6th, 2011

What an incredible experience Cairns Airport “Challenge Cairns 2010″ was! Not only was it fantastic to see Cairns looking it’s very best for the visiting athletes and spectators, but it was wonderfully uplifting to witness the spirit in which the entire region embraced this world-class USM event.

We were thrilled to be an integral part of “Challenge”. Suppling the AV and lighting for the event over it’s entirety. We got to see each and every leg of the event and we were also in the thick of things for the “Family Concert”, featuring Jessica Mauboy, along with the Awards and Presentation lunches and dinners.

We can’t wait for next year’s event!!!  (The boys have even promised me that they’ll wear lycra.  LOL)

Are you up for the Challenge? We are!!

May 12th, 2011

Team BBAV is in training for Challenge Cairns! Yep, we’re lacing up our running shoes & slipping into our spandex for one of the biggest sporting events in the history of the region.

Challenge Cairns will take place on 5th June 2011. Challenge Cairns Great Barrier Reef promises to attract some of the biggest names in long distance triathlon with its 100,000 Euro prize purse, the second richest in iron distance racing.

But it’s not just about the Triathlon…. there’s a Reef Swim, Fun Run, Lifestyle & Sporting Expo, Adventure Film Festival, Free Family Concert and more!!!  I’m so excited that I’m jogging on the spot as I type!

Team BBAV is proud to announce that we are the preferred supplier of AV for Challenge & can’t wait to get amongst the action!!!   (I just hope that our Techs look OK in lycra.)

Take the Challenge!!

A close encounter of the Royal kind..

May 12th, 2011

Now, Yours Truly (that’s me…the lovely young lady doing the typing) isn’t much of a royal-watcher. I’ll quite openly admit that I haven’t followed Kate & Williams courtship with bated breath. I didn’t call all my girlfriends for an extended analysis of the merits of the ring or Willy’s proposal, and I didn’t tune in to the royal nuptials and work my way through a box of Kleenex watching Kate stroll down the aisle. In fact, when it comes to the Royal Family I can pretty much take them or leave them.

BUT…….. when one of them pays a personal visit to our beautiful home town it’s a totally different story!

Yes, BBAV was front & centre for Prince William’s visit to Cairns when he spent a few hours at the new Cruise Liner Terminal meeting & greeting the many volunteers that helped our region through Cyclone Yasi.  Hosted by Cairns Regional Council, we provided the AV & lighting for the event, and Tiger & Tom from the BBAV Tech Team had the pleasure of ensuring that the Mayor & his Royal Highness could communicate with the massive crowd.

Have I mentioned that Tiger isn’t known for his photographic skills?? I also don’t think that this would be the Prince’s preferred angle for publicity shots….  ;-)

Client Testimonials…a job well done!

May 12th, 2011

It’s so gratifying when we receive praise from our clients for a job well done. The BBAV team strive to exceed our client’s expectations at every given opportunity and always give 100% to a project.

We’re very proud of the work ethic and professional conduct of our team and so when we get emails & letters from clients singing their praises we feel that the whole world should hear about it. It was our pleasure to work for Unilever Foodsolutions ANZ, Precedence & Toastmasters.

Thank you for your kind words…..

OMG you guys are awesome! The conference was reported to be the BEST EVER,
and this was largely due to the system you provided us.

It was so easy to use, and Tiger gave us a very thorough briefing. In
years gone by this conference has been plagued with sound issues, and it
was wonderful to have none of those issues this year.

Thanks again for your quick response and very generous quote. I’ll be
happy to recommend you to anyone I talk to organising a similar event.

Kind Regards,
Nicky Jurd
Manager

Another comment also made by Jill directly to Accor was;

AV fabulous

Thanks again for all your great work :)

Kind regards,
Alice Hiscock

I would like to take this opportunity to say a very big special thank you to you Alice, Jo, Natalie, Tiger and Jurgen

for all your assistance at our recent conference.

The feedback from the team was excellent and everyone had a wonderful time and I can truly put that

to your professionalism and willingness to assist us in all areas.

The word “No” was never used and you did your utmost to help us even with the most unusual of requests.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making our 2011 conference such a wonderful event.

Best regards

Deb

Dance, dance, dance!!!

May 10th, 2011

Yes it’s true…the staff at BBAV are complete and utter suckers for a pretty face (and a great set of legs). Liam was totally star struck when he had the pleasure of working with the beautiful and very talented Luda Kroitor of “So You Think You Can Dance” & “Dancing with the Stars” fame at the Canon Incentive held recently at two of the North’s premiere entertainment & accommodation venues – “Flames of the Forest” & “Thala Beach Lodge”.

Luda Kroitor certainly knows how to burn up the floor!

It was our pleasure to assist the fabulous team from Novotel Palm Cove with a recent client Familiarisation visit (FAMIL). On their final night in paradise the guests enjoyed dinner in the Novotel’s famous “Barramundi Room”.

Up, Up and Away

March 17th, 2011

We’ve never been the type of team that shies away from a challenge. Pressure, stress, deadlines, insurmountable odds….  we love it!!

Not so long ago the “Black Knights” were faced with a brand new adventure. A job courtesy of the British American Tobacco Assoc, in conjunction with Now Communications Group P/L & Blue 7, to be held at the Madang Resort in Papua New Guinea. A quick hop across the ditch…no problem. Or so we first thought.

Turns out that getting large quantities of heavey freight across to Papua New Guinea (along with several staff members) at very short notice is not as easy as it first appears. We chartered a private freight plane (with the help of some clever local transport gurus from Independent Aviation and Flighttech), worked out the logistics, made a thousand phone calls, constantly rearranged flight plans and eventually got the gear to the hanger. That’s where it gets really interesting……

Apparently large roadcases weighting around 160kgs, which must be shipped upright because of the nature of the equipment inside, don’t fit easily into private planes. The techs at the hanger had to remove the door from the plane, physically hold the plane to keep it from tipping over and then manually try and load the case. Getting this single roadcase loaded took over an hour. (We had to leave after that and let the lads finish the loading, but we’d already learnt plenty of new swear words so we didn’t feel like we’d be missing anything. lol)

Needless to say we got everything there in the end, the gig was a success and we even managed to get the team & gear back home again without too much drama.  There were some hairy moments but that’s what makes this job so entertaining.  :-)

Hmmm...small door + big boxes = trouble
