Yes it’s true…the staff at BBAV are complete and utter suckers for a pretty face (and a great set of legs). Liam was totally star struck when he had the pleasure of working with the beautiful and very talented Luda Kroitor of “So You Think You Can Dance” & “Dancing with the Stars” fame at the Canon Incentive held recently at two of the North’s premiere entertainment & accommodation venues – “Flames of the Forest” & “Thala Beach Lodge”.

The season has begun! We got off to an early start for 2010 with our 1st sizeable event for the year kicking off on March 1 and running through until March 6. What a fantastic client to work with! Very professional. We hope to lure them back to FNQ again in the future. A Welcome Dinner, 3 days of Conferencing & a final Gala Dinner & Awards night. The Welcome Dinner was held at Paradise Palms and it’s a sensational venue for functions & events! I highly recommend the food, the service and the wonderful team putting it all together. (thanks Kylie, Angelique and all the crew!) Conferencing and the Gala Dinner were held at the Sebel Cairns and again it was a real pleasure to work with such a professional and accommodating team. With the assistance of the Sebel crew we turned the Grand Ballroom from a Conference Room with cabaret seating for 300 into an amazing tropical wonderland where the rainforest met the reef in only 3 hours!! Massive job and the result was fabulous. (my photo does not do it justice, but there are better ones coming.)

Convention Centre Roadshow 2010

20 industrious and dedicated businesses packed their suitcases and pull-up banners and headed off on the annual Cairns Convention Centre Roadshow in mid-Feb. Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne all received a visit from the Tropical Nth QLD crew who were more than willing to go above & beyond the call of duty to extoll the virtues of our wonderful region.  The trip was hailed a success, and aside from getting flooded-out in Brisbane, it was a very enjoyable trip up and down the coast. (We still love Brisbane… but next time we’ll bring bigger umbrellas. LOL) A big thank you to staff at the Stamford Hotel in Brisbane, The Establishment in Sydney and Peter Rowland at the Chapter House in Melbourne.

It’s that time of the year when our thoughts turn to christmas trees, ham, crackers, early knock-offs on Friday arvo and festive hangovers. LOL

It’s been a massive year for all the team at BBAV & WHITE LIGHT EVENTS and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our incredible clients and preferred suppliers.

Haralds House ’09…great job team!

The final figures are in from the Harald’s House Gala Fundraising Dinner ’09.

What a HUGE effort by all involved!!  So proud that we could be part of this event and a big thank you to Charlie McKillop for her kind words.

“I’m sure Liam and Christine have passed on our committee’s gratitude for your collective efforts but also wanted you to know we officially raised more than $35,000 for Harald’s House at our gala event – all because the scene was set (by you!) for a wonderful night that not only looked and felt sensational but gave our guests the immediate impression they were going to be in for a hell of a fun night! Cairns Wildlife Dome… dine & dance with the wildlife!

The Cairns Wildlife Dome is the most glorious place to hold an event. Cocktail style functions only, but the atmosphere is totally unique and you can sip and nibble surrounded by native Queensland birds, reptiles and animals. The Dome is totally unique because it is fully enclosed and only some of the larger and less friendly animals are kept behind glass or in their enclosures. For the most part the birds and animals are free to roam throughout the venue. It’s fantastic! We lit the gardens and waterfall, added a dancefloor and a band, some basic but appropriate themeing and away we went. The guests had a great night under the Dome and among the wildlife.

Haralds House Gala Dinner 2009

“It’s not just a house… it’s about giving hope” was the theme for this year’s Haralds House gala dinner at the Sebel Cairns. On Saturday October 31st Charlie McKillop and her team of volunteers combined with BBAV & other generous business organisations from around Cairns to create “A night on the streets” to help reinforce the incredible work that Haralds House does feeding and giving hope to young adults living on the streets in the region. The graffiti artwork came courtesty of “Wally Wall Work”. This is the kind of event that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy & we’re really proud to be part of it each year. It was a huge success!! Well done to all involved and thank you to everyone who gave their time and money so generously.

1st wedding celebration on AJ Hackett Bungy’s new event lawn

We’re proud to say (and especially me, because the bride in question is one of my dearest friends) that we got to do the very first wedding on the new Event Lawn at AJ Hackett Bungy in Cairns. Friday 16th October was a very special day for the new Mr & Mrs Drew and Eve Turner.

The new Event Lawn was ready in time for “The White Party” a couple of weeks prior to the wedding, but this was the first private function to be held there. It’s possible to seat up to 250pax on the lawn alone & there is also the viewing platform area & grass area to seat further guests.

PS – this is the 1st and last time that I take a shot at being a Wedding Planner. LOL….  I’ve done some big gigs, but the pressure of event managing a good friend’s wedding is unbelievable.

Saturday November 7 saw yet another fantastic Queensland Multimedia Awards presentation. Held at the Hilton for 2009, there were a huge number of entries.

Congratulations to all the winners for 2009 and congratulations to the hardworking team behind the scenes who pulled it all together in grand style. Once the hangovers wear off  I’m sure they’ll be ready to start planning for 2010.
