Ah yes…. love was in the air last weekend (June 19) as Matt & Sarah said “I do” and sealed their vows on the gorgeous “Rainforest Green” at Rydges Sabaya Resort, Port Douglas. We were thrilled to be invited to do a little decorating for the happy couple’s big day, but I have to say that working with 40m of white chiffon ceiling draping 2 weekends in a row seriously tested my patience. LOL    I’m just a sucker for ‘LURVE’!  LOL

Sometimes managing events for friends can result in more pressure than a 500 pax corporate gala dinner. LOL

Firstly, let me extend a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the lovely Bones & just let me say that I was very proud to be able give her a fabulously ‘white’ night to remember. The theme was “White Wonderland”, the guests complied beautifully with the all white dress code, the drink flowed and the party lasted more than 24hrs! Now that’s an impressive birthday bash!

Secondly, a very big thanks to the owner of the backyard that we converted for the occasion. The clean-up operation on day 3 was definately epic.  LOL

It’s really refreshing to do a long term installation project…..

Sometimes the hardest thing about being part of the events industry is the ‘here today & gone tomorrow’ nature of most events. Months in the planning stage, days in the construction & production stage and then mere hours to stage the actual event, and then you pull it all apart again.  So when we were approached by Tyrrell’s Wines to produce a window display for Shield Street Cellars, Cairns for their Rufus Stone brand I did a little happy dance. LOL   We were working with their ‘freak of nature’ branding and the objective was to reproduce their logo as a window display which would remain in place for about a month. Thanks to All Copy Printing & Signs for providing the decal. These are the day time shots of the installation…. evening shots still to come.

There’s nothing like setting up a wedding under a clear-span marquee on a rainy and humid weekend to really test the tenacity of your AV & themeing technicians. LOL  (Anyone who’s had this particular experience will tell you that it’s very similar to working in a sauna.) The marquee was courtesy of Underwoods Party Hire, table dressing by Wedding Treasures, lighting/AV by BBAV and the event was held on Sprigs Lawn at the lovely Novotel Rockford Resort, Palm Cove. The end result was magical and definately worth the sweat and tears. LOL

NZ PCO Famil with Rydges Group TNQ

We welcomed our visitors from ‘across the ditch’ with open arms on Friday 16th & Saturday 17th April. 8 of New Zealand’s top PCOs enjoyed the hospitality of the Rydges group of properties, including Rydges Esplanade, Tradewinds, Plaza & Sabaya.

A progressive dinner was part of their TNQ adventure on Friday and then they headed off to Port Douglas to sample the sights and enjoy a dinner in the “Enchanted Rainforest” at Rydges Sabaya.

It was our great pleasure to provide themeing and audiovisual services for all events.

The season has begun! We got off to an early start for 2010 with our 1st sizeable event for the year kicking off on March 1 and running through until March 6. What a fantastic client to work with! Very professional. We hope to lure them back to FNQ again in the future. A Welcome Dinner, 3 days of Conferencing & a final Gala Dinner & Awards night. The Welcome Dinner was held at Paradise Palms and it’s a sensational venue for functions & events! I highly recommend the food, the service and the wonderful team putting it all together. (thanks Kylie, Angelique and all the crew!) Conferencing and the Gala Dinner were held at the Sebel Cairns and again it was a real pleasure to work with such a professional and accommodating team. With the assistance of the Sebel crew we turned the Grand Ballroom from a Conference Room with cabaret seating for 300 into an amazing tropical wonderland where the rainforest met the reef in only 3 hours!! Massive job and the result was fabulous. (my photo does not do it justice, but there are better ones coming.)

Convention Centre Roadshow 2010

20 industrious and dedicated businesses packed their suitcases and pull-up banners and headed off on the annual Cairns Convention Centre Roadshow in mid-Feb. Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne all received a visit from the Tropical Nth QLD crew who were more than willing to go above & beyond the call of duty to extoll the virtues of our wonderful region.  The trip was hailed a success, and aside from getting flooded-out in Brisbane, it was a very enjoyable trip up and down the coast. (We still love Brisbane… but next time we’ll bring bigger umbrellas. LOL) A big thank you to staff at the Stamford Hotel in Brisbane, The Establishment in Sydney and Peter Rowland at the Chapter House in Melbourne.

MERRY XMAS from all at BBAV!

It’s that time of the year when our thoughts turn to christmas trees, ham, crackers, early knock-offs on Friday arvo and festive hangovers. LOL

It’s been a massive year for all the team at BBAV & WHITE LIGHT EVENTS and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our incredible clients and preferred suppliers.

Haralds House ‘09…great job team!

The final figures are in from the Harald’s House Gala Fundraising Dinner ‘09.

What a HUGE effort by all involved!!  So proud that we could be part of this event and a big thank you to Charlie McKillop for her kind words.

“I’m sure Liam and Christine have passed on our committee’s gratitude for your collective efforts but also wanted you to know we officially raised more than $35,000 for Harald’s House at our gala event – all because the scene was set (by you!) for a wonderful night that not only looked and felt sensational but gave our guests the immediate impression they were going to be in for a hell of a fun night!
