More praise for our Techs

December 1st, 2009

It’s been a huge couple of weeks for the BBAV team. Our Techs have worked themselves into the ground and we’re soooo proud of their consistently fantastic attitudes and professional performance.

We think they’re pretty amazing, and it’s nice to know our clients echo that sentiment…  Great work guys!

Hi Liam
Just wanting to let you know what a great job Andy and Ollie did last week. The feedback has been fantastic and it was great to work with such a professional team.
Cheers Kate

It’s nice to be appreciated…. good work Tiger!

November 13th, 2009

It’s always nice when clients praise the efforts of one of our staff members.

Nice work Tiger! Keep it up.

“Hi Liam,

Just wanted to touch base and thank you for your assistance in setting up the AV requirements for us. Also I wanted to let you know what a great job Tiger did. I have been doing conferences for over 8 years now and I have never met such a good AV operator. Tiger was on the ball, eager to assist in every way and ensure everything run smoothly. I honestly haven’t worked with a more professional AV operator ever.

So hats off to you for giving Tiger the chance because as far as I am concerned he is one of the best assets you have next to yourself.

Thanks a million again and tell Tiger he is legend.”

Cairns Wildlife Dome… dine & dance with the wildlife!

November 13th, 2009

The Cairns Wildlife Dome is the most glorious place to hold an event. Cocktail style functions only, but the atmosphere is totally unique and you can sip and nibble surrounded by native Queensland birds, reptiles and animals. The Dome is totally unique because it is fully enclosed and only some of the larger and less friendly animals are kept behind glass or in their enclosures. For the most part the birds and animals are free to roam throughout the venue. It’s fantastic! We lit the gardens and waterfall, added a dancefloor and a band, some basic but appropriate themeing and away we went. The guests had a great night under the Dome and among the wildlife.

Haralds House Gala Dinner 2009

November 13th, 2009

“It’s not just a house… it’s about giving hope” was the theme for this year’s Haralds House gala dinner at the Sebel Cairns. On Saturday October 31st Charlie McKillop and her team of volunteers combined with BBAV & other generous business organisations from around Cairns to create “A night on the streets” to help reinforce the incredible work that Haralds House does feeding and giving hope to young adults living on the streets in the region. The graffiti artwork came courtesty of “Wally Wall Work”. This is the kind of event that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy & we’re really proud to be part of it each year. It was a huge success!! Well done to all involved and thank you to everyone who gave their time and money so generously.

1st wedding celebration on AJ Hackett Bungy’s new event lawn

November 13th, 2009

We’re proud to say (and especially me, because the bride in question is one of my dearest friends) that we got to do the very first wedding on the new Event Lawn at AJ Hackett Bungy in Cairns. Friday 16th October was a very special day for the new Mr & Mrs Drew and Eve Turner.

The new Event Lawn was ready in time for “The White Party” a couple of weeks prior to the wedding, but this was the first private function to be held there. It’s possible to seat up to 250pax on the lawn alone & there is also the viewing platform area & grass area to seat further guests.

PS – this is the 1st and last time that I take a shot at being a Wedding Planner. LOL….  I’ve done some big gigs, but the pressure of event managing a good friend’s wedding is unbelievable.

QLD Multimedia Awards at the Hilton Cairns

November 13th, 2009

Saturday November 7 saw yet another fantastic Queensland Multimedia Awards presentation. Held at the Hilton for 2009, there were a huge number of entries.

Congratulations to all the winners for 2009 and congratulations to the hardworking team behind the scenes who pulled it all together in grand style. Once the hangovers wear off  I’m sure they’ll be ready to start planning for 2010.

This is a quick snap of the stage and rigging getting bumped in.

Long time no blog…(my excuse is that it’s been incredibly busy)

November 13th, 2009

It’s high time that I returned to the world of the BBAV Blog. My apologies for my long absence, but work has had to take priority over everything else. Even eating and sleeping for the last few months. LOL

We’ve had a swag of excellent events during my absence and here are a couple of snaps of the Convention Centre Roadshow FAMIL held at TANKS Arts Centre on Friday Oct 30th. We had the great pleasure of creating a magical adventure around the iconic TANKS set to the theme of Alice in Wonderland. (it seemed very fitting with the Tim Burton re-make coming out in March 2010)

Malibu comes to Grand Mercure Palm Cove

July 30th, 2009

What a night it was! The opening night of the Pernod Ricard Australia 2009 Conference was held poolside at Grand Mercure Palm Cove. Did you know that they have the biggest above-ground pool in Australia?! (learn something new everyday. LOL) We “got our Island on” with Malibu. James Tobin from Ch 7′s Sunrise was on board to MC the festivities.

Pernod Ricard and Wolfmother

July 30th, 2009

Well, it’s not everyday that we get to play host to one of the top rock acts in the country.

Wolfmother took to the stage for a private acoustic gig at Novotel Rockford Palm Cove a couple of weeks ago and we were there to ensure that their sound was sensational.

What a terrific bunch of guys. Great musicians and a lot of fun.

New inventory for Bright Black AV

May 28th, 2009

Check out our recent article at www.ulagroup.com

Bright Black AV recently purchased Robe and Avolites for their rental production inventory. Bright Black AV & their team of expert technical operators represent the cutting-edge of audiovisual & event staging in North Queensland.  Bright Black AV’s Managing Director, Liam Elliston has been in the entertainment industry for 24 years. He and wife Christine have an extensive background in event co-ordination and theming. Bright Black AV was formed 3 years ago, and in those 3 years they have grown to become one of North Queensland’s largest AV companies.

Liam was so happy with his previous acquisition of Robe fixtures that he decided to invest in further Robe inventory comprising of ColorSpot 575AT’s and an Avolites Pearl Tiger for the lighting control. “We didn’t want to go with just any desk, as the industry standard now seems to have the grandMA’s and Avolites at the fore………
